Let’s get one misconception out of the way right now… Active adult communities are not the same as retirement communities. Active adult communities are age restricted and often that age limit is set at 55 and older. So if you were alive when Kennedy was president, you can live in one of these AMAZING communities!!
Active adult living does not consist of a bunch of old people sitting around yelling at people to get off their lawn. In these communities, it’s like living in a permanent vacation. Imagine buying a house in any ol’ neighborhood where you may or may not meet your next door neighbor. You may not know anyone in the neighborhood and might never meet them. Some people have young families and are always on the go and some people are constantly working and you’ll never see them. If you want to be active in your mature years, you have to be around like minded people. Sure, you could go and join a country club, dance club, painting club, sing in a choir, and become a member at a gym. Or you could move to an active adult community and have all of those things, plus more, right in your own neighborhood!
One common fear people have when looking at active adult communities is, “I’m not going to know anyone.” The fact is, just about everyone that moves to one of these amazing communities is in a similar situation. Therefore finding new friends is easy to do. Whether you attend one of the classes offered, ballroom dancing, or water volleyball, you will always meet like minded people that will be come long time friends.
And just a quick plug… the gentleman in the images below on the golf course – that is my dad. This is just after he nailed his first hole-in-one at the active adult community of Robson Ranch in Denton Texas (where he lives). Great job Dad!!
There is never a dull moment at active adult communities. If you choose to take part in the numerous activities, you will find all sorts of exiting things to do. You may learn a new talent, language, or skill. One thing is for sure, you will make new friends and have a great time! Here is a small example of some of the things you could expect to do:
Golf – Pickleball – Tennis – Swimming – Softball – Pilates – TAI CHI – Ballroom Dancing – Square Dancing – Work Out – Volleyball – Bible Studies – Water Aerobics – Basketball – Music Clubs – Pottery – Ceramics – Wood working – Scrapbooking – Book Clubs – Card Games – Parties – And much, much more!!!
